Mission Statement:
Build Green Atlanta is a grass roots educational non profit organization formed to spearhead a campaign in Metro Atlanta to build and renovate green. BGA promotes reduction of individual carbon footprint through housing by encouraging builders, renovators/contractors, and homeowners to use environmentally friendly materials, reduce & recycle building material waste, install energy efficient systems including gray water systems, drought tolerant landscaping, etc, as well as make better use of space. The organization will achieve awareness and action through networking, educational programs and workshops, and eventually limited lobbying.
Networking: monthly meetings with guest speakers from related businesses and organizations, website, monthly e newsletters, donated ad space in neighborhood newsletters
Education: monthly workshops and participation in neighborhood festivals
Lobbying: lobbying of local municipalities to raise minimum building standards and/or offer incentives for those building/renovating green. Lobbying of architects and builders to include green initiatives in construction.

What can you do?Help Joan spread the word - send Joan your contact info for e blast notices - become a sponsor - solicit other possible sponsors - tell Joan what topics are important to you - are the first steps. Monthly meetings & website activation will commence in Spring 2008. The public, builders, contractors, and realtors are all welcome to attend meetings and provide input. Each meeting will feature a speaker sharing information on their specialty in the Green Building Arena. A Newsletter will begin distribution featuring Green Building Resources. Topics will range from new construction, renovation, building codes, interior design, landscape architecture, minimizing your carbon footprint through residential and commercial building space, and so on.
